History

The Alliance Theatre Lab was founded by Adalberto Acevedo in 2001 as The Modern Stage.
After three years of successful shows that included the
South Florida premiers of Hellcab by
Will Kern and Nocturne by Adam Rapp, the theatre took some time off to regroup, add new
members, and refocus their mission statement. In 2005 the theatre resurfaced as
The Alliance Theatre Lab. Rachel Finely came on board as Managing Director and
Kevin Johnson
took a more active roll as the theatre’s Company Liaison. With a new outlook
the Alliance Theatre set out as a home for Directors and Actors to explore their craft.
Adalberto Acevedo has stated, “The Alliance should be a place for theatre artist and theatre
audiences to come together and confront the issues that affect all our lives.”
The Alliance Theatre Lab’s first production of David Mamet’s American Buffalo was chosen
to reinforce the theatre’s commitment to producing plays that inspire and provoke audiences.
With its first full season on the horizon The Alliance hopes that audiences come to the
theatre with the same enthusiasm and passion that this group of artist, bring to the
stage.
